CHC statement: Launch of Senedd inquiry into social housing supply
The Senedd Local Government and Housing Committee has announced [February 15] that it will undertake an enquiry into social housing supply.
Commenting on this, Elly Lock, head of policy and external affairs said:
“We welcome the launch of this inquiry by the Local Government and Housing Committee which is looking at the supply of much-needed social homes in Wales.
“Housing associations provide over 170,000 safe, warm and affordable homes to people throughout Welsh communities, and offer a raft of support to tenants to help them live well.
“In the last few years housing associations have built up to 80% of all new affordable housing in Wales. They have ambitions to provide many more, but there are a range of barriers that are making building new homes difficult.
“This inquiry is a crucial step towards providing vital social housing, and we welcome the opportunity to contribute our ideas for change.”
