Our first in-person Governance Conference in three years will be taking place at a time when social housing and residents are facing significant change and challenge.

At this event, we will explore in depth how we can significantly improve governance by how effectively we listen; gain resident and partner insight; and integrate this into better service delivery and design. In addition, we'll reflect on how sector leadership, systems and culture can be improved to ensure robust governance that sets social landlords up for success so they are even better placed to serve their residents and communities.

Effective governance in the sector needs leaders in organisations who can create effective strategy to help colleagues and communities navigate policy, commercial and societal change. But leading well and with clarity and impact is hard whether creating incremental change or transformation. How can social landlords ensure great formal and informal leadership for the colleagues they work with and the communities they work in.

Delivering excellent services for residents requires real listening to gain their insights into how to maintain and improve service delivery. But what is needed to do this really well, how can we improve on how the sector listens to residents and partners, and what are some practical solutions to doing this.

Helen Baker, Chair of Better Social Housing Review and Chair of Shelter

In the context of the recent spotlight that has been shone on conditions in social housing and the actions taken by boards and leadership teams to review and strengthen their response, what learning can we take from this experience to strengthen our whole approach to assurance.

Helen Baker will draw on her extensive experience to offer reflections, including as Chair of the independent Better Social Housing Review, Chair of Shelter and Vice-Chair at The What Works Centre for Wellbeing.
